Thurston County SMART
(School Medical Autism Review Team)
South Sound Parent to Parent is honored to provide SMART services in Thurston County. SMART (School Medical Autism Review Team) is based on a statewide program designed to shorten families’ wait times for an Autism evaluation. The SMART program’s specialists evaluate children up to age six at the time of the referral and connect families with community resources including Early Support and educational services through local school districts. No doctor or insurance referral is required.
For more information, or to make a referral, please contact Kim Rush, SMART Program Coordinator by phone or text at 360-375-2107 or email: tcautismco@gmail.com
Our process consists of three simple steps:
-
The family, with the support of the SMART Program Coordinator, gathers the child’s complete medical and educational file. This information is reviewed during the evaluation process and will be used to inform the evaluation as well as the team’s recommendations. Once the child’s file is complete, the SMART Program Coordinator will work with your family to schedule an evaluation.
-
The child and family will meet with 2 to 4 evaluators to complete a joint evaluation. After the evaluation, the full team meets to review all the testing and records in order to make a team decision as to whether or not the child meets the diagnostic criteria for Autism.
-
The family and evaluation team meets again to review the evaluation report, diagnosis decision, and resources/next steps.
